Welcome to a mystic world of woodland creatures and druidic or Wiccan magick, in this Sylvan Spirits slot game from Red Tiger, released in December 2020.
Red Tiger is one of the most interesting companies in the world of slots. They went from having a few hits over quite a short career to being taken over by NetEnt, one of the biggest slots companies in the world, who have used their expertise to craft some big hits with that company, which was then subsequently taken over by Evolution Gaming, the world’s biggest live casino company.
Red Tiger’s biggest current hit is Reel King Mega, a classic slot given a modern makeover, Gonzo’s Quest Megaways (another retooling of a big, classic hit, this one from NetEnt), Cash Ultimate, and Dragon’s Luck. Their most recent releases are Cash Ultimate, Night Roller, Pirates’ Plenty Megaways, and What the Fox Megaways.
They are due to release Riddle of the Sphinx, Primate King, and Honolulu Nights in 2021.Their games are usually very good-looking and often have relatively simple gameplay. Sylvan Spirits follows that sort of pattern. It is beautifully designed, with lovely animations and a fantastic symbol design that really brings the night creatures to life against a lovely backdrop.
The gameplay here has some nice tweaks, with 1,024 ways to win, multipliers delivered via symbol collection, giant wilds, and a free spins round.
The top prize is decent too, at a 7,500-times stake. Betting runs from 0.1 coins to just 10, which is very low, particularly for a high volatility game. (Volatility measures the length of time between prize pay-outs and the size of pay-outs). The game has a sort of Megaways set-up with wins paid for symbols on adjoining reels not along pay lines.
So should you set out for a walk in the woods with these creatures?
Let’s take a look.
Red Tiger is a great designer, so their games are very easy to play.
The controls are super-simple:
the control panel runs along the bottom of the screen, with staking decided by a single control with a sliding scale at the far left of the screen, next to an auto spin control. (Auto spin games are soon to be ruled illegal in the UK, so this will vanish for UK players at some point.)
Then all you have is a big, yellow spin button at the right of the screen, with the rest of the controls (menu, full screen, and audio) at the top of the screen.
If you click on the Paytable button you’ll get this:
The druidess figure is wild, with a Mega Mystic Wild also available.
The game is relatively simple.
Wins are paid for symbols on adjoining reels.
Free spins are awarded for sets of three Free Spins symbols.
Red Tiger knows what they’re doing and they always deliver a great quality game.
They have done so again here.
The five by four grid signals that there’s something special ahead, and if aesthetics are a big part of the reason why you pick a game then this one will surely attract your attention because it is really beautifully put together (though the design of the female figure is somewhat obvious in its appeal). The mystic flutes and woodland atmos of the soundtrack are perfectly pleasant if not mind-blowing.
The features are pretty good. Symbol collections add another dimension to gameplay and another visual element as well. It is attractively delivered in this case.
Free spins are the obvious bonus feature, and it’s nice that they have been delivered with some extra spice in this game.
What about the downsides then?
Well, the documentation is a bit lacking in this game. The instructions are short and sweet, but almost too short and not quite sweet enough. With more and more players using mobiles to access their online video slots, it’s no surprise that text is kept to a minimum, but we had difficulty in explaining everything in this game because the information simply wasn’t there.
Where the minimal look works are in the controls, which are completely appropriately cut down.
And our final complaint is our biggest. We really do not like games with RTP ranges. RTP is a theoretical return to the player and it is a long-term measure of how a game will perform usually written as a percentage. Most games offer an RTP of around 96%. Games with an RTP range ALWAYS have a lower starting point than this. The fact that they MAY go higher isn’t convincing to us and we believe RTP ranges will simply be used to increase the profitability of slot companies. Join a union or something.
If you like this game Red Tiger has a load of titles on the market and they’re all good quality. Perhaps the Pirates’ Plenty series, their first really big hit, is a good place to start. There’s a small range of games that are themed around nature in this way, including, Poison Eve and Druid’s Dream.
The Fox is the highest-paying symbol that pays only 1.5x for five on a payline. This is because the Sylvan Spirits bonus round, also known as the "hit or miss" climax, allows insane multiplier action.
The bet ranges from 0.1 to 10 coins, which is extremely low for such a high-volatility game.
Sylvan Spirits online slot will surely get you hooked because every win increases the symbol multipliers in the bonus round. And, during the bonus round, the symbol multipliers never reset and can reach up to 99x. You can also get a maximum win of 7,500x!
You have 1,024 ways to win the grand prize in Sylvan Spirits! The presence of huge wilds and free spins round will assist you to succeed.
